Owner/Operator-

Andrew Beaton

​

Horizon owner and Operator graduated from Carlton University in 2008 with a Bachelor’s Degree with Honors in Psychology and a minor in Anthropology. He has a background in behavior therapy from his time working as a Behavior Therapist for Summit Human Services Enhanced Care Worker Program, which was contracted by the Local CAS. He also has experience in  program operations, and staff supervision from over 10 years experience operating a Ministry licensed Group Home and has also received ONLAC training and TCI certification, and is a licensed NVCI Trainer. He has received training in NVCI Crisis management, Triple P Parenting for Teens and for children and sibling groups, Youth Mental Health and Addictions, and Trauma Informed Care Training— As an operator he completes roles that include managing referrals, business planning, bookkeeping, Contact with CAS and Ministry, Staff hiring and NVCI training. As an owner he employs expert supervision while providing a mentorship/role model approach to guidance and teaching new staff. Andrew is also responsible for staff supervision and designing and overviewing the implementation of Individual Youth Therapeutic Programming. As a staff supervisor, he conducts monthly team and house meetings and quarterly, semi-annual, and yearly evaluations.

Program Manager

The Program Manager will have received training in NVCI Crisis management, Triple P, Youth Mental Health and Addictions, and Trauma Informed Care. Daily Administrative duties. Assist Operator with Resident Assessment and referrals, and discharge/transfers. Supervise licensed homes for quality assurance and daily, weekly, and monthly licensing checks. House Finances and billing, CAS, and Ministry Liaison. Licensing and accreditation. Lead director of therapeutic programming and resources.

Scheduling House and Resident meetings and is always a strong advocate for youth needs. The Resident Manager will have received training in NVCI Crisis management, Triple P, Youth Mental Health and Addictions, and Trauma Informed Care. The Resident Manager is accountable to and works closely with the Program Manager to Supervise the Program and take the lead role in Recreation Planning, Menu Planning, School Liaison, and Liaison with the Youth’s Family and CAS worker responsible for Appointments, Plan of Care Meetings and scheduled visits Allowance and Personal Spending.

The House Manager has a degree from Oxford College in Developmental service work. He has received training in NVCI Crisis management. He will also receive training in the following fields prior to re-opening. Triple P Parenting for teens and Children/sibling groups, Youth Mental Health and Addictions, and Trauma Informed Care. He will be responsible for Health and Safety Checks, Staff Scheduling, Grocery Shopping, Damage and maintenance reports, house budgeting, Quality and licensing assurance. They are an Advocate for House finances and needs as well as inventory.

 

All additional Staff are hired with a University or College Degree in a related field that will benefit our team or be a cultural Elder or leader or have relative work experience justifying their position  and will always be in alliance with Ministry required QSF requirements. All staff will have prior to beginning employment, training in NVCI Crisis management and will have  also received training in the following fields  Triple P Parenting for teens and Children/sibling groups, Youth Mental Health and Addictions, and Trauma Informed Care.  Staff will also shadowshift and be part of In house orientation training including how to deliver the Therapeutic Milieu and Therapeutic Programming.

Youth Workers will have Received training in NVCI Crisis management, Triple P, Youth Mental Health and Addictions, and Trauma Informed Care. All Youth workers utilize their training and expertise to directly support the youth and use a role modeled and mentorship approach to promote positive growth and development and support the youth and supervisors in meeting their goals and carrying out daily routines.

Clinical Psychologist (contracted by Horizon):    

Dr. Marek

Contracted Psychologist has obtained a Doctorate’s degree with a background with children and youth council and service. He has extensive experience in a number of facilities and with agencies both in youth mental health and youth welfare. Dr. Marek will give offer his services to Horizon residents at a discounted rate.

CIRRICULUM VITAE

Andrew graduated from a 4 year Bachelor of Arts program with honours from Carleton University in Psychology and with a minor in Anthropology. Before becoming the Operator of Horizon Family Homes, Andrew worked as a live in care-giver for 3 years working with teen boys in need of independence skills, life coaching, employment and academic support; while also working part time as a behaviour therapist for an Enhanced Care Program working with Simcoe C.A.S foster homes. He has also worked for 2 years as a Primary Worker in a home for Autistic youth and youth with DualDiagnosis. His background Includes working with youth with Autism, Asperger’s, and OppositionalDefiance, behavioral challenges, emotional disorders and cognitive impairments. Andrew has been operating the 9 Little Lake Residence for 3 years and has brought his vision of operating a unique program to life in the creation of Horizon Family Homes and Human Services Inc.
