LITTLE LAKE home

This spacious 3200 sq. ft. two-story brick house is on a large treed lot. It features five large-sized bedrooms and a private Main Bedroom with a built-in bathroom. All of the bedrooms have large windows and brand-new queen-size mattresses. The home also has a large foyer, staff office, spacious entrance, two-piece bathroom, large dining area, kitchen, and a breakfast nook on the main floor. It has an additional full bathroom on the upper floor. We have plans to add a basketball court to the front yard and utilize community resources for fun activities. The home is in Barrie’s north end across the street and overlooking Little Lake. It is within close walking distance of a city transit stop and walking distance of several high schools, both Public and Catholic. It is within walking distance of an elementary school but offers a bus stop directly in front of the Little Lake Residence. The hospital is close-by, and medical centers, retirement residences, and a grocery store with other shopping centers are all included in future development plans for this quiet and convenient neighborhood.

 NUTRITION

At Horizon Family Homes, we aim to provide youth with guidance and instruction toward independence, and it is expected that each youth inform their caregivers of what they would like to see on the menu. Breakfast and lunch are meals that youth are expected to prepare for themselves, given the healthy choices available to them. They are highly encouraged to contribute to menu planning in these areas and prepare most of these meals for themselves. Instruction, supervision, and hurdle help are all available to the residents if they should require it until they have learned the necessary skills to accomplish this independently. Every Friday, the residents in the home will get to decide on a "house favourite," which is a meal selected from the existing menu plan or one that is new to the menu plan. Residents are encouraged to plan and help prepare dinner, and this meal, in particular, should have the resident's input. Menu plans are designed to meet the criterion found in Canada's Food Guide, and meals may be altered to meet these needs better, meet spending requirements, and cater to resident's preferences or specialized diets; however, meals remain as nutritious and in accordance to the standards of Canada's Food Guide. Horizon Family Homes and Human Services aims to provide each resident with a menu plan that is healthy, fulfilling, and consistent with Canada's Food Guide. Therefore, we have used certified nutritionist since 2018 to review and approve a rotating dinner menu, along with healthy breakfast, lunch, and snack options.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Organized, structured, and well-maintained home that promotes growth by encouraging good communication and problem-solving skills. There is a strong emphasis on building responsibility and moral reasoning. Personal accountability, consistency, and goal setting are stressed for those lacking self-direction. Each young person will be working on an individual independent living plan based on an independent living assessment and personal needs, identifying their strengths and areas needing further development.
